Team Year and Name
Brown [Eila] Senior Women's Curling Rink
The Canadian Senior Women's Championships held in Victoria, British Columbia in 1991 marked the first year for Northern Ontario in Senior women's play, and the first appearance at a national competition for the Eila Brown Rink of Thunder Bay. Skip Eila Brown and her teammates Arline Wilson, Eileen Chivers-Wilson and Bette Toskovich made up for lost time as they roared into the final with a spotless 11-0 round-robin record. In the final game they met up against Saskatchewan's Emily Farnham, the 1989 Canadian Senior and 1974 Canadian Ladies champion.
Opening the final game by scoring three in the first end with an open end draw, the team never looked back, going on to defeat Saskatchewan 7-5, finishing with a perfect record of 12-0, a feat which had not been accomplished in senior play since 1980. Lead Bette Toskovich was named All-Star lead for the event. This marked the first time that a rink from Northern Ontario had ever won a Canadian Women's senior curling title and the first senior title for northwestern Ontario.
